Detail from the Apostles’ Farewell, panel fragment
1480-1500 (?)
Pine, tempera
32 x 31.5 cm
Inv. 55.43
This small, trimmed and now square-shaped panel painting may have been a detail from a predella showing the Apostles’ Farewell. The male figure at the left edge, standing slightly to the back, conspicuously has no halo. Perhaps this explains why the earlier literature contained the completely unsubstantiated supposition that the donor was also included in the company of the apostles.
