The proportions of the multi-figural Crucifixion depiction painted on three attached, vertical boards suggests the work originally comprised all or part of the stationary wing of a winged altarpiece. The panel is mildly truncated and trimmed, overpainted in areas, with an entirely re-gilt background.
Above the captain’s head in a banderol with the inscription ‘Vere filius Dei erat iste’ (Mt 27:54). The influence of Netherlandish painting can be felt in the work. The prototype for the pairing of St. John the Evangelist and Mary is undoubtedly among Rogier van der Weyden’s works. In the most recent professional literature, the painting was declared the work of a Bavarian master. The ligature monogram HB and the date in the lower right corner were almost certainly added later.

Deszkán sok átfestéssel.”(Lakatos-Balla-2012 291)/‘97. Middle of the triptych: Crucifixion, quite a lot of figures. In the foreground, two henchmen grapple for the Lord’s clothes. 15th-16th c. On a wood board with substantial overpainting.’
