Wood, tempera, gilt
St. Simon the apostle
Inv. 56.497
67.5 x 32.5 x .4 cm
Panels comprising the painted side panels of the shrine of a winged altarpiece. The wood panel support was later thinned. On the upper part the etched contours of the former carved, traceried appliqué decoration can be seen. On both sides the picture was framed by columns with small, thin capitals supporting the tracery. Originally this work appeared with three other panels (56.498, 56.499 and 56.500) also showing apostles on the feast-day side of the same winged altarpiece.
