c. 1480
Limewood, pine, polychrome
Diameter: 35 cm
Inv. 56.852.1

The relief depicts the head of St. John the Baptist, an image of the saint’s execution that had become an independent depiction. It became widespread as a prop in medieval mystery plays or as a devotional image.
The painting of the plate in the Christian Museum’s collection was infilled in large areas; its rim was originally silver gilt. The head was affixed with a wooden peg.

From the parish church of Garamszentbenedek.
