The panel painting was sawed in two and trimmed; originally both sides were probably painted. The re-gilt gold background bears traces of an engraved pattern.
István Genthon posited that the work originated in the workshop of Hans von Kulmbach, while Miklós Mojzer and Alfred Stange suggested that it came from Martin Schaffner’s workshop and János Végh proposed Bernhard Stigel’s workshop.
