The saint is carrying the Baby Jesus on his shoulders. One of Jesus’ hands is raised in blessing while the other clutches Christopher’s red hair. Christopher holds on to a tree trunk as he crosses the water. The editors of the archive at lucascranach.org have dated the image to 1518-25 and attributed it to the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder.
