wool, 1634 knots /dm2
185 x 130 cm
Inv. 58.34.1
The prayer rug was made with the Anatolian knotting technique, and is decorated with six columns. Muslims must pray several times a day prostrating themselves towards Mecca, even when they are on the road. The representation of the mihrab on the rug refers to this purpose. The rug was acquired, with 36 other pieces, from the Ipolyi-collection.
