In the royal and aristocratic courts of Europe, refined Chinese tableware, painted with blue decoration, was highly esteemed already in the Baroque period. They were widely imitated. Chinese porcelain is usually decorated with stylized flower and foliate motifs, but sometimes also Chinese genre scenes appear on them. The work was acquired from the San Marco collection, together with similar pieces.
