8. Decorative Arts (12-20th c.)

Vase
Alt-Wien, early 19th c.
porcelain
height: 110 cm

The work is a copy of an original vase of Meissen, which was widely imitated. Also the double coats of arms refer to Meissen: they belong to August II (the Strong), Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. The enormous vase is decorated with colourful flowers and Rococo scenes characteristic of Meissen. Tradition says that it was a gift to Archbishop János Csernoch given on occasion of the coronation of the last Hungarian king in 1916.
