The Fourteen Helper Saints help to strengthen the devotion of the believers. The representation of this group spread in Europe from the 15th century on. St. Leonard, St. Erasmus, St. Nicholas, St. Giles, St. Vitus, St. Achatius, St. George, St. Pantaleon, St. Christopher, St. Eustace, St. Blaise and three female saints: Margaret, Catherine, and Barbara interceded for all the faithful who supplicated them for help. The painter, of rather minor talents, continued the artistic tradition of the so-called mining town school in Upper Hungary, but his figures are more robust, the range of his colours more limited, and he concentrated on a few powerful local colours.
