The lower part of the Lord’s Coffin is the symbolic sarcophagus. Its sides are decorated with reliefs relating to the resurrection. On each longer side, there are three soldiers dressed in contemporary Turkish and Hungarian garments, guarding the tomb. On the front side Christ leads Adam and Eve, the couple committing the original sin, and Saint John the Baptist out of limbo. On the back side of the sarcophagus, the three holy women are seen approaching Christ’s tomb, only to hear the joyful news of the resurrection from the angel. They have delicately carved shapes and faces that reflect pious devotion.
