Antoni Waterloo was one of the famous masters of Dutch seventeenth-century etching but his name and works are little known to the general public today. The majority of his prints depict forest and landscape scenes. The collection of prints in the Christian Museum, which counts over 5000 items, has almost 120 of Waterloo’s prints (altogether 139 are known). The exhibition offers a manysided overview of Waterloo’s activity through some 50 exhibited works, which are presented to the public for the first occasion.
The exhibited etchings illustrate Waterloo’s experiences during his travels in Holland and the neighbouring countries. Besides Waterloo’s own work, the exhibition takes a wider look at the period, at Waterloo’s contemporaries and the greatest Dutch masters of the representation of landscape.
The exhibition, forming part of the events of the Dutch Cultural Season in Hungary, is curated by Bianca Iványi and Sándor Juhász.
